The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was created in 1951, during the Second World War. The purpose of its creation was to help millions of Europeans who fled their countries and left everything behind. 

Today, the world is still working hard, seeking the protection of refugees and helping them all over the world. 

The world annually celebrates World Refugee Day on June 20th. It is a day dedicated to reviewing refugee issues, since many people’s lives, homes, and children are threatened during a time of conflict. The world hosts this day hoping to draw attention to the public eye and to the millions of refugees that need help and support from us. 

According to the UNHCR there are 65.3 millions refugees and internally displaced person in 26 countries. Some of which are living in refugee camps or temporary housing. 

Today, the world is witnessing the worst refugee crisis since World War II. The estimated number of Syrian refugees today is three million aside from the six million who are displaced internally or in neighboring countries, which makes up from one third of Syria’s population today.

اليوم العالمي للاجئين

تم انشاء المفوضية للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين في عام ١٩٥١، خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية. انشئت اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لعام ١٩٥١ من اجل مساعدة الملايين من الأوروبيين الذين فروا من ديارهم او فقدوا منازلهم.

اليوم، مازال العالم يعمل بجد، و يسعى في حماية اللاجئين ومساعدتهم في كافة انحاء العالم.

يحتفل العالم باليوم العالمي لللاجئين في ٢٠ يونيو من كل عام. فهو يوم مخصص لإستعراض قضايا اللاجئين و مشاكلهم. فالكثير من الأشخاص تتعرض حياتهم و اطفالهم و اوطانهم للتهديد. فالعالم يحاول ان يسلط الضوء على معاناه هؤلاء و يبحث عن تقديم المزيد من المساعدة و العون لهم.

تفيد المفوضية بوجود ٦٥،٣ مليون من اللاجئين و النازحين داخلياً في ٢٦ بلداً. حيث يعيش بعضهم في مخيمات و آخرون في مراكز مؤقتة.

فاليوم، العالم يشهد اسوأ ازمة لاجئين منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية و هي ازمة سوريا. يقدر عدد اللاجئين السوريين حالياً بثلاثة ملايين الى جانب ٦،٥ مليون نازح داخلياً و هو ما يمثل ثلث عدد السكان.

“مواقفنا من اللاجئين يجب ان ترتكز على قيمنا المشتركة المتمثلة في تقاسم المسؤوليات، وعدم التمييز، و حقوق الإنسان و القانون الدولي للاجئين، بما في ذلك مبدأ عدم الإعادة القسرية.” - بان كي - مون، الأمين العام للآمم المتحدة.
